Lover of Pomegranates



It is pomegranate season and this makes me happy. I love pomegranates. Not only because they are such a beautiful color, but because of the nutritional benefits. Did you know that pomegranates are low in fat, free of saturated fat, sodium free, and cholesterol free? If that isn't enough to make you run out and grab one, then maybe the fact that pomegranates are a great source of fiber, potassium, and vitamins C and K will. They are also a good source of folate and copper. The one thing I do not like about them is deseeding them. So here is a easy way to deseed them without staining your fingers, clothes, and the rest of your kitchen.

Steps to Deseeding a Pomegranate

1. Cut the pomegranate in half with a sharp knife.

2. Fill a large bowl half way with water.

3. Place one half of the pomegranate in the bowl of water.

4. Start peeling the rind and separating the seeds from the translucent white flesh. The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl and the rind and flesh should float to the top.

5. Remove the rind, flesh, and drain the water off the seeds.

All pomegranates contains hundreds of seeds. These seeds and its translucent flesh are edible. So enjoy eating them raw or add them to your favorite yogurt,  salad, or even juice them for a healthy drink.
